Rugby fans brought together by a love of sport (and Domino’s pizza) ahead of this year’s Cup!

Rugby fans across New Zealand will be brought closer together this Thursday, 15 September 2022 thanks to an unwavering support of one thing…  a love of iconic Pepperoni Pizza, of course!

That’s right – Domino’s reports from the Cup in 2021 found that Pepperoni was the most popular pizza flavour ordered by rugby lovers nationwide last year.

So popular in fact, that Domino’s can reveal more than 16,000 Pepperoni pizzas were cut, boxed and safely delivered to Kiwis across New Zealand to enjoy during Game 1 of 2021.

Domino’s New Zealand General Manager Daniel Hawkins said stores are gearing up to bring their ‘A’ game for the Cup again in 2022.

“Last year, we delivered 90,000 pizzas to homes across New Zealand, travelling more than 50,000km in total during Game 1.

“That means our Delivery Experts safely travelled the same distance as the perimeter of 9,000 rugby fields delivering piping hot pizza to pizza lovers and rugby fans nationwide!

“While these are some big numbers, our focus is on being slow where it matters in making every pizza right, and fast where it counts in hustling them out the door, while ensuring safety is at the forefront of all we do, both in store and while we’re on the road delivering Hot & Fresh pizzas.

“At Domino’s, we believe pizza is the world’s best sharing food – because no matter your taste preference or dietary requirement, there is something for everyone!

“Historically, many of our customers love to share a slice of their favourite pizza with family and friends ahead of kick-of. Domino’s feels privileged to be part of one of the biggest, and most exciting sporting events on the New Zealand calendar again!”

During Game 1 of 2021, Domino’s Water Street in Whangārei made 1,300 pizzas, averaging 50 pies every half an hour.

Domino’s Water Street franchisee Jayesh Madhav said that his team are excited to do it all again for Game 1 of 2022.

“My team and I are excited to safely deliver Hot & Fresh pizza to Whāngarei locals this Thursday night,” said Mr Madhav.

“In addition to phones ringing off the hook, a rotating oven full of piping hot pizzas and expertly managing perfectly timed deliveries, our store will also handle the rush of being almost two times busier than a typical Thursday night.

“Despite this, Domino’s teams across New Zealand, including Domino’s Water Street, continue to ‘rise’ to the occasion every year, carefully preparing pizzas for customers in record time!

Ahead of this year’s big game on Thursday, 15 September 2022, customers are encouraged to pre-order online to ensure their pizzas arrive before kick-off, and they don’t miss a moment of the action.

Whoever takes the win, one thing is for sure – rugby fans will be getting a ‘slice’ of the Domino’s action – with extra Pepperoni to boot!
